Bangladesh surpassed Israel in cyber security

In the global context, Bangladesh has moved up to the 32nd position in the national cyber security index, surpassing Israel. Similarly, among South Asian countries or SAARC countries, cyber scenario of Bangladesh is the most secure. AS per the UK-based National Cyber ​​Security Index (NCSI), Bangladesh has advanced six steps forward in its steady growth over the past three years. Tareq M Barkatullah, Project Director, BGD e-Gov Cert, working on cyber security of the Government of Bangladesh, said that this continuous achievement is a reflection of Bangladesh's capability in providing cyber security which will not only encourage Bangladesh to fight cyber-attacks more efficiently in the future but also will play a simultaneous role in establishing a cyber secure nation. The cyber security expert also said that last time Bangladesh dreamed of surpassing Israel, noting that regular cyber drills are playing a role in increasing Bangladesh's capability in cyber security in the world. In his words, in order to sustain this achievement, we need to develop our youth as a cyber army with extensive training. BD Cert is constantly working to strengthen its position through regular research and development. Earlier, in 2020, Bangladesh moved up 8 steps from 73rd to 65th place. After that, in a single push, it rose 27 steps ahead and occupied the 38th position in 2021 and rose to the top among the SAARC countries. At the beginning of this year, no country in South Asia could reach the index of Bangladesh. Even, Israel, Cyprus and Canada has fallen behind. Under the auspices of the Estonia-based e-Governance Academy Foundation, Bangladesh is 31.11 steps ahead of the digital index in this global index, taking into account the cyber security and digital development situation in 160 countries around the world. Bangladesh's total points in the National Cyber ​​Security Index now stands at 67.53, confirming a strong position in each of the 12 indicators. Neighboring India is ranked 44th in the index with 59.74 points. Pakistan is in 74th place. And Myanmar in 140th place. On the other hand, the Czech Republic has the best position in Europe. This is followed by Estonia and Germany. In Asia, Saudi Arabia ranks 14th in the index. And as always, Greece is at the top of this index. The country's security index number is 96.10. It is followed by Lithuania and then Belgium. Portugal is in the 7th position in the top 10. Spain 8th, Poland placed ninth and Finland in 10th position. Basically, this indicator is created in five steps. These are national level cyber threat identification, national cyber security system and capability identification, selection of important and measurable issues, development of cyber security indicators and cyber security indicators according to their subject.
